About your appointment- all you need to know

We ask all patients to bring / wear shorts and for ladies to also wear a vest top. Why? It’s essential we can see your body’s alignment and how your joints, fascia and muscles move your skeleton. To do this we need to be able to see as much of your body as possible without making you feel uncomfortable. (We’re not interested in whether you’ve shaved your legs, have cellulite or knobbly knees!)

Both studios have waiting rooms ensuring that you have complete privacy during your appointment.

Upon arrival please wait in the waiting room until called in.

Your appointment begins with an initial detailed medical and injury history and discussion, this is to allow the practitioner to understand the issue(s) troubling you. If you have any imaging reports or correspondence medical letters bring these in, or email them to us prior to your appointment.

The assessment by your practitioner, whilst dependent on your ailment(s), aims to allow us to understand how your entire system moves. To do this, we need to see your posture and how your joints and limbs are working together as a whole. As an example, you may be asked to stand on one leg, bend over, raise your left arm or just walk around. There are no hidden motives here, we’re just looking at what unhelpful adaptations your body has acquired and how to change this. Leg hair, cellulite, quirky birthmarks, we’ve seen it all before.

Unlike some physiotherapists and other practitioners , we are hands on. You will be poked, prodded, twisted, pulled – sometimes this might be moderately unpleasant, but it’s not designed to hurt. If you feel uncomfortable at any time during your appointment, please don’t be afraid to say. We’re here to help you and it is never our intention to make you feel awkward or embarrassed.

It is also worth noting that within the clinic we work as a team and we may refer you to another professional for specific and specialised treatment. It is always your choice whether you accept our advice, please don’t feel pressured into going ahead with the referral or booking future appointments unless you are happy to do so. Any advice given is coming from the decades of collective experience and knowledge of the team. The staff here are dedicated to making a positive impact in people’s lives. We pride ourselves on ensuring we have the most up to date and evidence based solutions for whatever your specific situation requires.

This isn’t a job for us, it’s our passion.

We have your best interests at heart and we’re here to help. If you have any concerns ahead of your appointment, please drop us an email or pick up the phone.

Princess Leia is Sherry’s cat and sometimes she comes to the clinic with Sherry. We totally understand that not everyone likes cats, so if you’d rather not meet Princess Leia or you’re allergic to the furry felines, please do let us know in advance of your appointment so we can ensure she spends the day at home.
